Adjust network (wifi) connectivity

I have been onsite with two clients (one pre sales and one current) who are involved in media streaming. A test which they are really keen on having but cannot automate and that is the ability to control the current networks connectivity to see how the app performs in less than ideal conditions. (Generally a lot of clients are interested in offline mode)

Some Examples:

  • NetworkConnectivity.Full
  • NetworkConnectivity.HalfStrength
  • NetworkConnectivity.LowStrength
  • NetworkConnectivity.Mixed
  • NetworkConnectivity.Dropping
  • NetworkConnectivity.Offline

The types of things they are specifically looking to test:

  1. Buffering for when the connection in dropping
  2. Video Quality in less than ideal network conditions
  3. Offline mode
  4. Downloading content for later use in less than ideal network conditions

Ideally the test driver would be able to directly control the network state.

I think in general, more device control would be good. For instance, we show a specific screen on our app to let users know that location services are turned OFF.
